Case Types Covered by OCR Attorneys & Engaging Youth

OCR attorneys provide competent and effective legal representation to Colorado’s children involved in the court system because they have been abused and neglected, impacted by high conflict parenting time disputes, or charged with delinquent acts and are without a parent able to provide relevant information to the court or protect their best interests during the proceedings.

OCR attorneys represent the interests of children in dependency and neglect (child abuse), delinquency, domestic relations, adoption, truancy, probate, mental health, and paternity cases.  The attorney’s role and duties are dependent upon the case type in which the attorney is appointed and the role the attorney serves in that case.

OCR trains all of its attorneys on the law, social science research, child development, mental health and education issues, and best practices relating to issues impacting children involved in court proceedings.  To learn more about the roles and responsibilities of OCR attorneys in specific case types, please visit the Dependency & Neglect, Juvenile Delinquency, Domestic Relations, and Additional Case Types pages listed at left.

OCR is also committed to ensuring that children have a voice in the Colorado legal system through effective attorney services, practice and advocacy. To further this goal, OCR works to support and promote youth empowerment throughout the court process, including youth participation in court hearings and case events. Visit the Engaging Youth page listed at left to learn more about these efforts.
